The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 为活人树碑立传，在我看来总是太早。在种族话题甚嚣尘上的当下拍这个题材，多少有点借光的嫌疑。威氏姐妹的成功固然闪亮，也并非完美无瑕，老威更是如此；而瑕不掩瑜的处理，终究显得仓促。演员的群像表演倒是真的不错。

人物塑造成功例子，主角的优点和缺点（坚定/固执）如硬币的正反面般呈现，固执的几场戏看的真脑溢血（褒义）。关于种族话题的论证也颇为公平合理，白人黑人有好有坏。查了资料才发现居然不是胶片拍的，数字拍摄和后期技术现在是很先进了。
对理查德描写太正面了，只能说大小威是天才选手
这样的故事&人物当然要多讲 拆分了仔细讲 不过选择视角上 也许这次太爹了 虽然在开头和中后段点缀了两笔关于黑人内部 关于婚姻家庭里面的这个“King”是多么虚弱 但也都是台词口号似的 所以只好更期待以后的叙述 无论是 Serena 甚至她们的母亲 Oracene Price p.s. Elswit 的摄影没有很明确的特质显露 但是完成度和功能上很棒 比赛的节奏展示选择 戏剧的峰谷安排 Venus 的几次成长过渡都太中规中矩了
中规中矩的奥斯卡传记电影。

体育界这种虎爸成才的故事其实并不多，中国的例子我就想到丁俊晖。
典型的成王败寇与美式鸡汤。你是大威小威的爹，你的方法就是正确的，你是黑人影帝威尔史密斯，你扇人耳光也就理所当然了。越来越趋向男性化的两姐妹，让女子网球变得毫无美感。记得当年莎拉波娃的海报贴满了大街小巷，广告接到手软，大威小威两姐妹的比赛我是看到就转台的。
确实不温不火，不功不过，演得确实可以，但原本可以挖掘的更深入，但为了目前大环境，拍的过于主流过于俗套，
这是个父亲专制统治下的黑人鸡娃家庭，父亲自尊心过剩，一心指望女儿们出人头地，过程却控制欲十足，各式“嘴脸”，标榜为了家人，却忘记尊重。人物从头到尾没啥大变化，他也未真正为家庭做过妥协（让女儿参赛、暂缓签商务可不算妥协），最后却获得“国王理查德”的美名。
两星半。好无聊，去对比《摔跤吧爸爸》都要比这有血有肉，电影极力塑造一个我也不知道该怎么形容的父亲形象，准确来说，剧本很快将这个父亲代指了一切东西，精神、规则、plan、指令以及一切，唯独我看不到父亲，这个原型是有特别具体的参考的，威尔史密斯的表演在安全区域内发挥得出色。我觉得更厉害的是母亲安洁纽艾丽斯，她有一种游刃有余的轻松，对照结尾的真人对比，她更是把神韵都拿捏得很好。
小时候，他爸说，等你们打出来了你们就能在好莱坞住大房子，带网球场的大房子，别人会因为认识你们出去吹牛逼，motivation，money and fame，非常真实了
1、小孩对明天没计划，通常是父母对未来没规划；2、另外电影的艺术就是就是把人生简化成故事吧
从父亲深谋远虑的角度讲述大小威的故事，这个传记片走的路子很不寻常，非裔姐妹在网坛写下的浑厚一笔为她们的成长经历赋予了强烈的励志，她们的成功与父亲对于计划的固执密不可分，这位父亲真正伟大之处，在于选了网球并坚持这一选择。
6.9.绝不是网球版《摔跤吧爸爸》。故事别出心裁的将重心放在了大威小威的父亲理查德威廉姆斯身上，对其性格特点和高瞻远瞩进行了细致入微而又不失真实的刻画，加上威尔史密斯堪称影帝级的《当幸福来敲门》式的表演，使本片作为一部传记片已经成功了一大半。第三幕居然选取了一场失败的比赛作为ending也算是不落俗套。美中不足在于篇幅较长的家庭戏码使影片显得拖沓和沉闷，种族议题也并不深刻，对父女之间的冲突也没有深入描写导致略显失真。
现在看他就觉得是有anger issue的人 而且传记片怪无聊的 可能我真的不喜欢鸡爸鸡妈这种吧
美式鸡娃教育励志片，手法过于老套，表演也就史皇正常水准啊
理查德和里奇两个pua高手过招的几场戏还有点意思，其他都比较平庸。
好故事，也多少拍出了人性的复杂，还抛出了一个很值得讨论的问题：Williams家族的成功究竟应不应该被仿效？传奇不值得推崇的原因可能恰恰是因为它是传奇。
